Abstract

This paper examines the properties of the Korean verb ha-, focusing on its behavior in constructions with verbal nouns and psych verbs. It is assumed that the verb ha- does not function consistently across these constructions. That is, it does not always contribute to the agentive property. To examine this issue, an acceptability judgment experiment was conducted with Korean native speakers. The participants rated sentences with the verb ha- combined with either a verbal noun or a psych verb, each modified with the adverb uytocekulo 'intentionally'. The findings demonstrate that the verb ha- exhibits distinct syntactic and semantic functions depending on the type of element it combines with. Based on the experimental results, an analysis is proposed within the HPSG framework. These results have implications for the typological classification of the verb ha- and contribute to a type-based analysis of the Korean verb ha-.
